Bear and Aphra for On Our Backs. This image traveled all over the world as a postcard. In those days of incredibly amplified homophobia postcards had a very broad audience reach and to show that gay sex was an act of love of beauty was a message with a challenge of broad reach. Gay visibility was important. Education breeds understanding. This was taken before Queer Nation formed. 

Tanzer studied at San Francisco Art Institute.

Cornell University's Human Sexuality Collection has acquired Jessica Tanzer's archives where they join the papers of Susie Bright, On Our Backs, Tee Corinne, Honey Lee Cottrell and many other trailblazers of queer history.
